Bit o’ trivia (I’ll do more if anyone likes these): The castle on the western cover of Castlevania Symphony of the Night is Le Mont Saint Michel Castle in France. Believed inspirations for other castles:

• Bran Castle, Romania = Dracula X for PC-Engine
• Katz Castle, Germany = Castlevania New Generation for Mega Drive
• The Castle of Cagliostro (from Hayao Miyazaki’s awesome Lupin III film) = Vampire’s Kiss for SNES.  I don’t know about this one.  Someone is going to have to show me how this adds up.

Ossian, a legendary Irish warrior and bard, whose name became well known in 1760–63 when the Scottish poet James Macpherson (1736–96) published his own verse as an alleged translation of 3rd-century Gaelic tales. Irish name Oisin.
